Data Migration Warning: Files with Restricted Permissions May Be Excluded

Shared Drive and Normal Drive Compatibility

• DRS Google Drive Migration Software can backup files from both Shared Drives and individual Google Drives.
• For shared files, if the owner of the file has not granted explicit read or write permissions to the user, our tool cannot access or backup these files.
• Ensure necessary permissions are provided on shared files before initiating a backup to include them successfully.

Zero-Byte Files Exclusion

• Files with a size of 0 bytes (empty files) are automatically excluded from backup.
• Such files will not be included in backup operations, as they contain no data.
• Only files with actual content will be processed. So, users must ensure important files are not empty if needed in the backup.

Download and Edit Permission Restrictions

• Files that have restricted download or edit permissions will not be backed up.
• If a file’s owner has disabled the ability to download or edit, the software will skip backing up that file, as the API cannot bypass these restrictions.
• If specific files need to be backed up, check and modify the permissions to allow download or edit access temporarily.

Large File Size Export Limit

• When exporting Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides through the API, there is a maximum file size limit of 10 MB.
• Files larger than 10 MB cannot be exported directly via the API, resulting in an error and exclusion from the backup. Users can migrate files equal to or less than 10 MB.
• For larger files, consider using the export links field in the API response. It provides alternative links to download the file in smaller segments or different formats (e.g., PDF, ODP).

The DRS Google Drive Migration Tool operates within these API limitations. So, users may need to adjust file permissions, check file sizes, and reorganize folder structures for optimal backup results.
